'For Mind, Body & Soul'

NEURO-MUSCULAR TRANSMISSION

Neuro-Muscular Transmission (NMT) is a relatively new and ever evolving therapy. It is very effective for physical and emotional problems. The treatment is to help restore the mind and body as far as possible to its origonal state.

It is a simple technique using gentle touch or no direct contact. NMT uses manipulation of soft tissue which makes use of the body’s communication system. This is done through gentle touch, and connections between muscles, nerves and the brain. In this way the mind-body system can resolve problems of a musculo-skeletal or emotional/psychological nature.  The whole process is to help reprogramming, which is designed to bring about fundamental change on a physical, emotional and psychological level.

Physical Level

When we are in pain, we move to a 'position of ease' and eventually the muscles become tense and distorted. After time not only does it cause pain but can start to restrict movement. During a treatment the therapist will apply hands to the body and a process of reprogramming begins. With the therapist using touch in a specific way, the sensory nerves relay information to the brain. The brain assesses the problem in relation to its 'origonal blue print'. Neuro-transmitters in the muscle respond, initiating this process of reprogramming, releasing tensions and restrictions with excellent long term results. The therapist will continue with the process of 'positional release', which will assist the process of reversal to resolve the problem. This is a natural process whereby the brain registers this and releases the tensions from the corresponding muscles. A mixture of firm and gentle pressure will be applied, but there is usually little discomfort; most people find treatments pleasant and relaxing.

NMT is effective for - musculo-skeletal problems, back pain, restricted movement, injuries, general aches & pains

Emotional Level

For emotional and psychological problems, the therapist will then focus on the head, body and the energy field which will result in information being relayed through the nervous system, until it reaches the limbic system, an area of the brain that is associated with emotions and memories. The treatments release energy patterns of disturbed emotions from the mind-body system, allowing you to be yourself again, calm and relaxed. The emotions we feel are our subjective experiences of our own energies. The therapist works directly with the energies, bypassing the need for you to re-experience any difficult and unwanted emotions. Sometimes these memories go back to child hood and are thought to be forgotten or thought of as minor. These memories however can have a detrimental affect on the way we feel in adult life. The therapist will firstly place hands on your head and with gentle movements allow the mind-body sysytem to restore itself to its natural state of being. The other energy centres (chakras) are then re-balanced and you should start to feel your true self again.

It helps with depression, bereavement, fear, stress, anxiety, anger, behavioural problems and past emotional or traumatic experiences. NMT can help with any of these emotions whether acute or chronic. It can also help with physical complaints i.e. irritable bowel syndrome, headaches and other symptoms often associated with emotional problems and stress.

The therapy itself helps re-balance your emotional state by releasing difficult emotions and the thinking that goes with them.

Treatment

You remain fully clothed during the treatment and you may be required either to be lying down or sitting. In treatments for re-aligning the muscles, the therapist will place both hands on your body which will then begin the process of movment to reposition the muscles. Where there is acute muscle spasms, the therapy works well in relieving the symptoms associated with it quickly. When working on an emotional level the therapist may work off your body working in what is known as the energy field that surrounds your body. Most clients have found this therapy very relaxing and pleasant. Sessions vary but usually last about 1 hour.

How many sessions is needed? The treatment may include the whole body or specific areas. No two treatments are the same. If required, treatments are usually 7 days apart initially, becoming less frequent once the basic problem has been resolved. The number of treatments required will be determined by the length of time the problem has been there and lifestyle. Generally speaking it is not long term work.

The process has three different stages:

1.      Resolution of a problem which may be acute or chronic

2.      Support through a transitional period while the body adjusts to the changes that have taken place

3.      Maintenance if the problem is aggravated by work or repetitive activity
